eco Calls for Abolishment of Ancillary Copyright

Regarding the argument about Ancillary Copyright for newspaper publishers in Germany, eco Director of Policy and Law, Oliver Süme, states:

“eco – Association of the German Internet Industry e. V. spoke out regularly against the introduction of Ancillary Copyright for newspaper publishers in the past, and continues to call for the abolishment of this regulation, a law which inhibits investment and innovation. In the eyes of eco, there are clear and predominating disadvantages to Ancillary Copyright law. The decision of several large search engine providers no longer to display snippets from the affected publishers in their search results, or to bypass these publishers completely in the future, is a justifiable and consistent step in view of the current prevailing legal uncertainty.”
