Oliver Süme: “There is a chance to make Europe the leading Internet location world-wide.”

Oliver Süme, eco Director of Policy and Law, on the theme of the European election 2014:

“The newly elected European Parliament can have a decisive impact on network policy in Europe and Germany in the next five years, with the setting of a few central agenda points. There is a chance to make Europe the leading Internet location world-wide. Above all, I see three topics that should currently be right at the top of the network-political agenda in Europe. Firstly, taking up and consistently furthering the idea of a regulatory framework for a common and harmonized single digital market which supports market diversity and fair conditions for competition. Secondly, the rapid adoption of a European basic regulation on data protection that will create a unified level of data protection for the entire area of data processing in Europe. And thirdly, a clear rejection of the re-introduction of blanket data retention.”
