US/EU Safe Harbor provided a framework for companies from both regions to do business with one another despite very different privacy laws, but those protections are gone. A European court invalidated it over lax privacy protections. Some businesses are rejoicing, other businesses are scrambling for what to do next. Will the newly proposed EU/US PrivacyShield be ratified and become the new method by which EU and US do business? What happens if it fails to be ratified? Is this situation the catalyst that the US and EU need to start talking seriously about reforming privacy online?
